There are all types of conventions around the country on an almost weekly basis, where enthusiasts of all kinds can gather and share their love of a common hobby or interest. The more well-known conventions, such as comic book conventions and gaming expos, attract tons of interest, but there are also conventions for the more obscure, such as beekeeping conferences and expos for those who love mermaids. If you have a large group who plans on traveling to an upcoming convention, don’t deal with the hassle of airfare or rental cars – rent a charter bus from Ground Travel Specialist!
Room for Costumes, Props, and More
It’s fairly likely your suitcase won’t just be packed with a change of clothes, and you and everyone traveling with you might have costumes or props you want to take with you to the convention. Our buses have plenty of room for carry-on luggage, as well as storage underneath for suitcases and other large items. Your driver will make sure everything is packed safely and appropriately, and that nothing will be damaged in transit. The last thing we want is for you to arrive at your hotel or the convention hall to find that your three-person costume can’t be worn.
At GTS, we make it a priority that every person rides in comfort all the way to their destination. It doesn’t matter where you’re going or how long it takes to get there, we’ll ensure that your charter bus ride is unlike any other! Contact us to book your trip to your group’s next convention.
When you think about taking a vacation, you look forward more to getting to the destination, not the journey. You might be taking a plane, a bus, or driving your own car to your destination, but all you’re really looking forward to is getting there and not traveling any more. At Ground Travel Specialist, we believe that the journey should also be comfortable, and we’ve done our very best to make our charter buses as luxurious and enjoyable as possible.
Resting Easy Mile by Mile
With a bus from GTS, you won’t have to worry about driving to your destination or sitting in an uncomfortable seat for hours on end. The forward-facing seats on all of our buses make for a comfortable ride over every mile, and there are reading lights for those who want to take their favorite book along, as well multiple video monitors where you can watch your favorite movie or put something on to keep the kids entertained.
Renting a charter bus takes the stress out of getting to your destination, and you won’t have to worry about missing a connecting flight, or the nausea and motion sickness that can come with sitting on a plane or in a car for extended periods of time. Everyone will have the opportunity to sit in a comfortable seat, enjoy their own entertainment, or watch out the window as America rolls by. Contact us today to reserve your next bus trip!
Summer is the perfect time to take a vacation, and if you have a youth group or school group, a trip to an amusement park is a great idea. You can find roller coasters, water slides, and much more on your vacation, and Ground Travel Specialist (GTS) can get you there on one of our luxurious charter buses!
Our buses can handle both overnight and day trips, and our drivers will make sure you are picked up and dropped off on time. If you’re headed to a water park, be sure to pack plenty of towels and sunscreen, as well as a change of clothes. Our luggage compartments have plenty of room, so if you’re taking a group of 30 kids from the local youth center to WildWater Adventure, everyone will be able to bring a suitcase that can be stored underneath the bus, and a personal bag they can store in the overhead compartment in the bus cabin. It’s also a good idea to notify the park that you’re bringing a large group, so they can prepare in advance, and also perhaps plan something special for you and the kids!

Every vehicle in our fleet is fully air conditioned, comes with a PA system for announcements, and has a DVD player and multiple screens for in-transit entertainment.

In our first entry in this series, we covered some American battlefields from the Revolutionary and Civil Wars in the Northeastern and mid-Atlantic states. In this blog we’ll discuss some of the most important battlefields in the South.
Fort Sumter
The first shots of the Civil War were fired at Fort Sumter in Charleston, South Carolina by Confederate forces on April 12, 1861. Over the course of a day the Confederacy lobbed artillery fire at the fort, before those in the fort surrendered the next day. Over the course of the war the North tried to retake Fort Sumter several times. All the efforts failed. The Union, after being unable to wrest control of the fort back from the Confederates, then decided to continue bombarding Fort Sumter throughout the rest of the war. While the Confederate soldiers managed to repel all Union advances, the fort took unbelievable amounts of damage, which the U.S. Army repaired after the Confederate forces abandoned Sumter ahead of Sherman’s march through South Carolina.
Today, the Fort Sumter National Monument is made up of three sites in and around Charleston. From the Fort Sumter Visitor Education Center museum you can take a ferry over to Fort Sumter.
Chickamauga
The Battle of Chickamauga (September 18-20, 1863) was the last battle in a Union offensive that brought the war through parts of Tennessee and Georgia. Union progress was halted by Confederate General Braxton Bragg’s northern march. While the Union managed to hold its lines for more than a day, a miscommunication created a hole in the Union lines which was then exploited by Confederate Lieutenant General Longstreet. Longstreet drove a wedge into the line that forced a third of the Union soldiers off the battlefield. The remaining Northern soldiers reformed on Horseshoe Ridge and held the line until twilight, when they moved to Chattanooga. It was the second bloodiest battle in the Civil War, with over 30,000 casualties across both sides.
At the Chickamauga National Military Park there are a great number of things to do and see, including guided tours, the Fuller Gun Collection, and more than 50 miles of trails that lead you around the battlefield.
If your history class wants to visit any of these sites, you can always charter a tour bus from Ground Travel Specialists, and leave the driving to us!
There are many important historical battlefields in the United States. These sites range from battles fought during the Revolutionary War, the Civil War, the War of 1812, and other smaller battles that occurred outside of a traditional war. These sites can be an impressive source for learning about some of the conflicts that shaped our country. One of the best ways to tour these sites is on a chartered bus because, while many of these battlefields are relatively close together, most of them are still a long way from Michigan.
Northeast and Mid-Atlantic State Battlefields
The Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states are full of battlefields from the American Revolutionary War and the American Civil War.
Bunker Hill
Bunker Hill, in Boston, has a monument to the American colonists who were able to hold their own against a superior force of British regulars only two months into the war. While the Battle of Bunker Hill was technically a loss for the colonists, the British suffered heavy casualties that opened the eyes of overconfident British military leaders to the capabilities of the supposedly weak militias.
A large granite obelisk stands 221 feet tall on Bunker Hill to commemorate the 1775 battle. The site is a part of the Freedom Trail, a two-and-a-half mile long trail that passes by sixteen significant historical locations in and around Boston.
Battles of Saratoga
Another theater of the Revolutionary War, the Battles of Saratoga are actually composed of a series of battles that took place over several days in 1777, beginning at Freeman’s Farm in September of that year. The British General John Burgoyne was surrounded by American forces after being abandoned by Native American support and a reinforcement force that never arrived, and was eventually beaten and forced to surrender. Today, views of the battlefield near Freeman’s Farm are just one part of the Saratoga National Historic Park. Other points of interest include the Saratoga Monument obelisk and the Boot Monument, which pays tribute to the heroic efforts of Major General Benedict Arnold, who was instrumental in defeating Burgoyne.
The Battle of Gettysburg
The bloodiest battle in the Civil War (approximately 46,000 to 51,000 casualties between both sides), Gettysburg was also the point at which the war began to turn in favor of the Union. General Robert E. Lee hoped to invade the North for a second time during the middle of summer in 1863, so he led his army away from Virginia and into Pennsylvania. He wanted to push as far into Northern territory as possible in order to force Northern leaders to end their campaign against the Confederacy. While the South made some gains over the first two days, a disastrous charge (Pickett’s Charge) on the third day of battle was the final straw for Lee’s forces, who retreated back to Virginia after suffering 50 percent casualties during the doomed charge.
If you’d like to take your class, or any group of people interested in American history, to any of these battlefields, call Ground Transport Specialists for a charter bus. Stay tuned for our next installment in this series.
